I’m a Storyteller

I love stories. I am a storyteller.

I wrote my first book at age 5. I made it with torn sheets of paper and I bound the sheets with broom sticks. I grew up hearing stories from my dad who told me folktale and stories he made up on his own.

By age 10, I had written at least 5 stories and I lent them to my classmates for a charge. In less than 2 weeks, I earned money. It totaled about 200 Nigerian Naira–10 times my daily daily allowance! I stopped by story-lending business after a month. I stopped because my attempts at expansion by collaborating with my friends failed. Too many conflicting interests.

I continued writing fiction stories and I continued lending them to my classmates–no charges. I stopped writing about age 19. I got too busy with academic work.

Fast forward to 2020, the fateful year when COVID-19 went global. I was homesick and soul-searching. Stories came back to me. I rekindled the old flame. Here I am now back with stories. I am not writing fiction at the moment–there’s still lots of academic writing I’m focusing on–but I’m telling stories. I’ll be telling a story as part of my PhD and I’m telling stories in front of a live audience (in-person or virtual). I love it!

Here is a link to stories I’ve told and directed with others.
